Teachers routinely ask questions to assess progress and guide instruction. Questions like:

Where are my students now?

Where are we going?

How will we get there?

GCA’s Assesslets provide solutions to these questions!

What are Assesslets?

GCA’s Assesslets are formative tools aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence assessed on the Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) and End of Course (EOC) assessments.

We offer Assesslets in English Language ArtsMathematics, Science, and Social StudiesAssesslets are not intended to predict performance on the EOG and EOC assessments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, but do provide information on how well students understand concepts and are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in a particular content area or domain.

Items within each Assesslet are designed to require extended reasoning and critical thinking beyond basic recall.

Administer Assesslets Online

We are proud to announce the ability to administer Assesslets via an online platform, Lennections™. Students may now access Assesslets on desktop computers, laptops, tablets and even phones! Learn more here:

Cumulative Assesslets

The Cumulative Assesslets are aligned and assess a representation of the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). These cumulative forms can help teachers to gather strong evidence on student learning toward the overall end-of-year expectations at each grade level. That is, teachers can identify a wider range of knowledge, skills, and concepts that students have not mastered so adjustments can be made to instructional practices and strategies. Cumulative Assesslets are not intended to predict performance on the EOG and EOC assessments, but do provide information on how well students understand concepts and are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills that can help prepare for Georgia Milestones.

Because more content is assessed, Cumulative Assesslets contain approximately 20 to 25 items. Items within each Assesslet are designed to require extended reasoning and critical thinking beyond basic recall.

How will the use of Assesslets help me support my students and instruction?

Assesslet use supports formative instructional practice and provides a “snapshot” of how students are approaching mastery within a content area or domain.

Educators may use Assesslets with individual students, small groups, or an entire class as instructional tools, and as quick assessments for a particular group of standards. For example, Assesslets may be used as a pre/post assessment to gauge students’ understanding of a particular concept or domain.  They may also be used during instruction as teachers model how to approach assessment items, identify essential information, and plan a response.

Furthermore, Assesslets may be administered whenever it is appropriate to inform instruction. Scored responses from Assesslets are returned quickly to help teachers make instructional decisions and provide timely feedback to students.

Assesslet Blueprints

An assessment blueprint outlines the concepts and skills measured on an assessment. For GCA’s Assesslets, blueprints include standards assessed, item type, and depth of knowledge (DOK) for each item.

Standards: All items are aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence.

Item Type: Items on the Assesslets can either be selected-response (SR), constructed-response (CR), or extended-response (ER).

Depth of Knowledge (DOK): DOK levels reflect the complexity or the cognitive demand required to successfully respond to an item. All items on GCA’s Assesslets are either a DOK level 2 or 3.

How are Assesslets different and why should I use them?

Formative Design

Assesslets are developed to allow educators a “snapshot” of how students are learning within a content standard.

Flexibility

All districts may use the Assesslets since these are based on content standards, not on instructional calendars. Teachers have the flexibility to administer Assesslets while they teach those standards.

High Quality

All items incorporate high rigor and best practices, developed at the University of Georgia.

Affordable

Our Assesslets are offered using a clear and transparent pricing structure published on our website. You won’t have to wait for a quote or purchase services you don’t need, and our prices are fixed at a low rate.

Scaffolded

The extended performance task on the Assesslet is cumulative—it builds from previous items. This allows students an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills without assessing the standards in isolation.

Instructional Support

Extensive teacher keys with rubrics, distractor rationales, and exemplars are provided. We also offer professional development workshops to help teachers receive the most value from our Assesslets.

Scoring Efficiency

It is important to protect the educator’s instructional time in the classroom; in many cases, it is logistically impossible for teachers to score assessments in a timely manner. Assesslets will be scored and returned to educators in two weeks or less.

Scoring Experience

Assesslets are scored by GCA evaluators who are Georgia residents with years of experience scoring high-stakes Georgia assessments. Our evaluators and trainers include current and former Georgia educators invested in the achievement of Georgia’s students.

Easily Administered

Assesslets may be administered whenever a teacher determines it is appropriate.

Professional Development

In addition, customized Professional Development is available to guide and support next steps following administration. Please contact GCA for additional information on these products and services.
