GCA is continuing to expand our Assesslet offerings with new cumulative forms. Beginning in January 2017, Cumulative Assesslets will be available in Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Cumulative Assesslets will be designed to provide a more comprehensive view of student learning than the currently available Assesslets, which are designed to provide a quick “snapshot” of how students are approaching mastery.
The Cumulative Assesslets will be aligned and assess a representation of the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). These cumulative forms will help teachers to gather strong evidence on student learning toward the overall end-of-year expectations at each grade level. That is, teachers will be able to identify a wider range of knowledge, skills, and concepts that students have not mastered so adjustments can be made to instructional practices and strategies. Cumulative Assesslets are not intended to predict performance on the EOG and EOC assessments, but do provide information on how well students understand concepts and are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills area that can help prepare for Georgia Milestones.
Because more content is assessed, Cumulative Assesslets will contain approximately 20 to 25 items, extended beyond our ELA and Mathematics Assesslets of five items. For Mathematics, the option for both Assesslets and Cumulative Assesslets allows teachers multiple opportunities and levels to gather evidence on student learning: learning by domain, learning of the curriculum as a whole, or both.
Items within each Assesslet are designed to require extended reasoning and critical thinking beyond basic recall.
Cumulative assessments are currently in development and we be available in January 2017. For more information regarding our formative assessment program, please visit our website at http://gca.coe.uga.edu or contact us at 888-392-8977.
We look forward to partnering with you!
