New ELA Assesslets Coming in 2019

Beginning in the spring of 2019, GCA will be offering new ELA Assesslet forms in grades 1-8 and in grades 9 and 11 for use in the fall.

As with the existing ELA Assesslets, the new ELA Assesslets will be aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence and will be available in three genres: Informational/Explanatory, Opinion/Argument, and Narrative.

Informational/Explanatory and Opinion/Argument Assesslets will include:

  • Paired reading passages and documents
  • 3 selected-response items
  • 1 constructed-response item
  • 1 extended writing prompt

Narrative Assesslets will include:

  • A literary reading passage
  • 3 selected-response items
  • 1 constructed-response item
  • 1 extended writing prompt

The selected-response and constructed-response items help students think about the passages in a way that prepares them to respond effectively to the extended writing prompt. The structure and rigor will mirror that of the Georgia Milestones EOG and EOC assessments in English Language Arts.

Assesslets provide a quick “snapshot” of student learning and are administered in one class period. Schools and districts have the ability to administer the Assesslets as benchmarks: once in the fall and once in the spring!

Additional details will be available in November!
